New Beginnings…

Have you ever felt like there was more inside you, more than what people see, maybe even more than what you realize is there yourself? I’ve had this inner longing for a few years now to start something, to use my creative juices on a daily basis, in a way that would help support my family financially, and maybe even help others too. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve started lots of little side hustles as a stay at home mom, trying to add a little extra cushion to the grocery budget. Through those little endeavors I realized I really love having a business, I even love the not so fun parts like P&L sheets and websites, and found that I’m pretty good at it all and did ok at just about everything I tried. But nothing ever really stuck, and the direction never felt very clear. I used to think I had to come up with this ONE thing that I did, and then do that really well, until finally it would stick and become something big. Maybe that is the method that works for most people, heck that’s probably what any business coach would tell you too. But something else I’ve learned about myself is that I don’t think I could ever do just one thing. I love variety, I love problem solving, I love design and being creative, I love oil painting and I also love working with power tools.

Sometimes that one thing for you doesn’t exist out there yet, or maybe you just haven’t seen it. Maybe you’re meant to create it.

Turns out my “one thing” is actually lots of things, lots of skills and passions that I’ve rolled into something I’m calling my one thing. Because this thing allows me to follow all of my passions. I am passionate about painting, because it feeds my soul, it brings me to a state of mental clarity and peace that I don’t often find. I am passionate about business, using my skills to financially help my family (I’m practical in that way, not the typical artist stereotype I guess.) I am passionate about home - I love being a homemaker, I love creating a place that feels safe and peaceful, full of joy and inspiration - my home is a canvas to me. I am also passionate about being resourceful, reusing things, making things the best they can be without going over budget, using second hand and thrifted finds for styling, and so on. So, I’m not sure what all Lily Field Studio will do in her lifetime, but I do know this is the framework for all the goodness, the starting point for whatever it may be.

For right now, I know it involves painting - and I plan to sell more originals and some art prints this year. I also know this studio is about creating spaces that make home more enjoyable. So I will continue to flip houses, and imagine old homes into the new ones they can become, and pour all my creative vision into each one. I also hope to use this studio as a space to inspire and remind others to enjoy their homes too, so I want to share my own home and how I’m enjoying the 1/3 acre piece of earth God has give my family to tend. I don’t want to feed the jealousy beast - we don’t need to fill our homes with the newest trends each season. We just need to love what we have, tend to it, and enjoy it. Oh, and then share it with the people we love.
